« La nuit infuse » - une nuit presque blanche dans les Knuckles Mountain Range.

À quelques heures de route de Kandy, la capitale culturelle du Sri Lanka située au coeur du pays, s’élèvent les Knuckles Mountain Range Ces montagnes et les collines qui les environnent ont la particularité d’être un microcosme climatique du reste du Sri Lanka car toutes les conditions climatiques de toutes les zones du pays sont représentées dans le massif. Là, entre jungle et plantation de thé, laissons tomber la nuit sur notre camps de base afin d’en infuser l’écoute…

L'idée a été ici de (re-)construire un paysage sonore très naturaliste (biophonie - géophonie) mais où la sensation de ma présence (voix, mouvements, manipulations, respirations...) et celle du guide (et du chef de camps) permettent de dessiner une dramaturgie, sinon narrative, du moins habitée, vécue, et par la même plus dynamique, voire plus immersive, qu’un simple paysage déshumanisé.

La trajectoire se déroule entre la tombée de la nuit, et, à travers une chronologie pas tout à fait « réaliste » (flashback - anachronismes - répétitions…) de nous rendre jusqu’au levé du jour. Afin de traverser cette nuit, nous nous frayons un chemin entre rêve, rêverie éveillée et flashbacks obsessionnels comme autant de rémanences acoustiques de temps d’éveils diurnes. Cette nuit si particulière, presque blanche -disons « grise »-, nuit d’ivresse auditive passée à effeuiller la nuit et tous ceux qui la peuplent, l’habitent, la partage.

"Night infuses" - an almost sleepless night in the Knuckles Mountain Range.

A few hours drive from Kandy, the cultural capital of Sri Lanka located in the heart of the country, rise the Knuckles Mountain Range These mountains and the hills that surround them have the particularity of being a climatic microcosm of the rest of Sri Lanka because all the climatic conditions of all areas of the country are represented in the massif. There, between the jungle and the tea plantation, let the night fall on our base camps in order to listen to it ...

The idea here was to (re-) build a very naturalistic soundscape (biophony - geophony) but where the sensation of my presence (voice, movements, manipulations, breaths ...) and that of the guide (and the chef de camps) allow to draw a dramaturgy, if not narrative, at least inhabited, lived, and by the same more dynamic, even more immersive, than a simple dehumanized landscape.

The trajectory takes place between nightfall, and, through a timeline that is not quite "realistic" (flashback - anachronisms - repetitions ...) to reach us until daybreak. In order to get through this night, we make our way between dreams, daydreams and obsessive flashbacks like so many acoustic remnants of daytime waking times. This very special night, almost white - let's say "gray" - a night of auditory drunkenness spent stripping the night and all those who inhabit it, inhabit it, share it.
